About the Author
Dennis Fuqua (pronounced few-kway) has been the director of International Renewal Ministries since the year 2000 (www.prayersummit.net). Prior to that, he pastored for twenty-five years in Gig Harbor, Washington. In 1989 IRM (under the direction of Dr. Joe Aldrich) gave birth to the Pastors’ Prayer Summit movement. Now Dennis helps shepherd this movement, which has spread to at least forty states and over thirty nations. He has had the privilege of facilitating thousands of hours of corporate prayer in multiple-day Prayer Summits, congregations, classrooms, at retreats, and many other settings. These opportunities have given him a unique experience and perspective which he shares in this book. His love for the Written Word and the Living Word has not only helped guide these times of prayer but also his life. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in ministry at Multnomah University, Portland, Oregon. He speaks often on the topics of individual and corporate prayer in congregations, conferences, classrooms, and retreats. His passion is to see the church relate best to God, itself, and to those who have not yet placed their faith in Jesus Christ. He is a member of America’s National Prayer Committee and Mission America Coalition and serves as one of the coaches of their “Loving Our Communities to Christ” process. His articles have appeared in several magazines including Pray! Magazine and Prayer Connect. He is also the author of the 2010 book Living Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer Alive in You (www.livingprayer.net). Dennis and his wife, Marilyn, have four adult children and seven grandchildren. They live in Vancouver, Washington.

Facilitation of Prayer

This author is exceptionally gifted in the implementation of corporate prayer within any type of group. I've attended a Pastor's Prayer Conference where Dennis Fuqua taught, and he was great, so I was excited to find this book covering his teaching. I'm not disappointed. If every pastor, church leader, and intercessor read and put into practice his suggestions, our world would be turned around in short order. I HIGHLY recommend this book, if you have any interest in prayer at all!

Fuqua does a great job of practically and purposefully laying out the vision ...

Strange layout. The book is one large FAQ page you would find in 90's website. However, aesthetics aside, Fuqua does a great job of practically and purposefully laying out the vision and theology of communal prayer. After reading this book I have a entirely new imagination for leading group prayer.

If You're Studying On Your Own, Steer Clear

This offers very little in the way of explanation. If you truly struggle with math or even with specific concepts (like geometry) this book is not for you. A small paragraph is provided to explain something and if you don't grasp it from that, you are stuck referring to other books or using the web to research it. Also, I found a few errors in the Answers section. This could definitely add to the confusion for anyone that's not an A+ math student. I was very frustrated by how often I had to refer to something else for the information I needed.

That being said, this book seems like it would be well-suited to a GED prep class with an instructor explaining before the work is being done. For my purposes, this book was a waste of money.

Not a fan.

I'm not a big fan of this book. I bought this because I was taking a class that required it, but as far as a teaching guide, I don't think it's very good. It's ok, but it doesn't do much explaining which if you don't have any experience doing these kinds of problems can be an issue. If you want a teaching guide I'd look elsewhere, especially for the premium price.

Edit: My original review of this book (above) will remain untouched but I'd like to address something. I've gotten 2 unhelpful marks on my review of this book, and I don't know what more people want me to say. I'll say this, this book pretty much cost me $25. and I didn't take much from it at all. The explanations are very brief, and it's also all over the place with it's teachings. It jumps around from pre-algebra to algebra 2 to algebra and back again and so on. So again, it's not a good teaching guide, period end of story! I honestly think the unhelpful marks against me are either from publishers or fans of the book because no one in my class (20 or so students) liked it. On the other hand I bought this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071824979/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (McGraw-Hill Education Preparation for GED Test) for $14. and actually took a lot more from it's math section. Also, after my classmates saw and looked over my McGraw-Hill book more than a few went ahead and bought one for themselves. True story! This book is lucky I gave it 3 stars, but I figure if someone has experience with math then they might feel it's actually a solid book. But not me, especially not for the price. Done.

steck-vaugn ged books for 2014

When you use this book, You should all so use the student workbook first. It will tell you how to do it better. The student edition mathematical does not let you do that much work. The workbook lets you work on 2 to 3 pages. The other book only let you work on 1page. The books I love. they will help you with the GED.

About the Author
Richard E. White is a research entomologist at the United States National Museum in Washington and the author of articles and research papers chiefly in his special field of beetles. As an artist he is most experienced in portraying insects, but he also illustrates general biological subjects. Donald J. Borror is a professor of entomology at Ohio State University and the author of books, articles, and recordings. With Dwight M. DeLong he is the coauthor of a widely used textbook, An Introduction to the Study of Insects, now in its fourth edition. Dr. Borror has made several records of bird songs and insect sounds. With Richard D. Alexander he recorded The Songs of Insects, one of the Sounds of Nature disks in the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology series. Roger Tory Peterson, one of the world's greatest naturalists, received every major award for ornithology, natural science, and conservation, as well as numerous honorary degrees, medals, and citations, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I love this guide

I love this guide. One of the best for insects, this definitely enhanced my learning experience in my entomology course. And now I find myself keeping this book in my bag everywhere I go. Really handy. With insects, you need to take a taxonomic approach to identify between families, this book lays out the differences for easier id. (In some scenarios a magnifying glass or dissecting scope is the most helpful.)

Perfect for school

This was perfect for my 9-yr old in 4th grade. They were studying insects for this year and this gave him more than enough materials to build a realistic insect model. My son loved this book and read it avidly before building his insect model. Great purchase for us!

The action continues in Hunted. Following Shanti's decision to leave Cayan's town, she follows rumours about a man who's a ghost. Thinking he may be her brother she eventually tracks him down in the enemy's camp. There she not only finds her brother but also an unknown man who talks in riddles and seems to be a guide. With her escape and the much talked about Hunter on her trails she finds herself once more in the path of Cayan and her honour guard, making hard decisions. Discovering Cayan's past may also help unlock his immense powers This time she's not by herself as she finds herself trusting in the people around her and sets out to the Shadowlands as danger follows close on their heels.

With impressive fighting scenes and emotion running through the pages, the Hunted pulls the reader into the story and has your heart racing to see where it leads. K.F Breene delivers just as she did in her darkness series and makes you care for the people in the story and has you cheering for the good guys even while seeing the path of the enemy.I can't wait to see where this story goes and i totally recommend this. Time to let our females fight.

What's next in this exciting in gripping series?

When I finished the first book in this series, Chosen, I didn't think it could get any better.
Alas, I was wrong. BOY was I wrong. I could not put Hunted down. I was reading it between calls at work, on breaks, while eating dinner, I was addicted. I could not stop reading. And then, the unthinkable happened. But we'll get to that in a minute.
In Chosen we learned a lot about Shanti and what drives her, a little about Cayan. In Hunted we learn more about both of these exciting and complex characters.
We also get to see a glimpse of how Shanti used to be when she is with her brother Rohnan, and we see the background characters evolving as well.
With the Hunter coming after them, Xandre aka the Being Supreme still a huge threat, the action never stops. Shanti draws more allies to their cause and continues on her journey with Cayan, Sanders, Burson, her Honor Guard and Rohnan to the Shadow Lands to undertake the trials to become the Chosen. (Burson calls her the Wanderer).
Hunted will have you hooked from the first and when the unthinkable happens, you will be going no, no, NO and looking for the next book in this exciting series. Hopefully K.F. Breene doesn't keep us waiting too long.

Have no doubt, Hunted is an action packed thrill ride. Chosen was amazing and gave us a great understanding of our characters, but Hunted was so meaty I will be full for days! Only days though, so the next book needs to get here in a hurry.
Shanti is on her journey to fulfill her role a Chosen, and encounters many additions to her close circle; some are pieces of her old life returning to her, and others are new, interesting additions to the already amazing cast of characters. The growth of Shanti and Cayan’s understanding of not only their powers – and how they interact – but also of each other.
This Ms. Breene is very sneaky in how she includes small bits of romance into this book, but make no mistake – while it is a underlying feature, Hunted is focused on the journey, not the destination.
I fell in love with Shanti in Chosen; her vulnerable yet fiercely determined personality was endearing. We now get a bit more insight into her emotions and the toll they take on her. Shanti proves her self more with every decision that she is the person that does the right thing, not the easy thing. Plus, she is a bad-ass warrior – who wouldn’t root for her?
Cayan is, gah! Wonderful!! He refuses to stay separated from Shanti, even after her less than stellar departure. The thing I love the most about him is that even though you can totally tell he is in love with her (though I don’t know if he know that yet), he knows that they need to be together for the greater good and that is a driving force for him.
All of our favorite characters are back plus some new ones that add so much to the story – but I won’t tell you. I am not a spoiler!! I am SO excited to see how The Warrior Chronicles plays out!!!!

About the Author

Mack Wilberg is the Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was appointed Music Director in March 2008, having served as Associate Music Director since May 1999. He is a former professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelors degree; his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of Southern California. In addition to his conducting responsibilities he is active as apianist, choral clinician, composer, arranger, and guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have been performed by artists such as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, The Kings Singers, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Claire Bloom. Wilbergs arrangements and compositions are performed and recorded all over the world. With their grandeur, energy, and craftsmanship, they inspire performers and audiences everywhere.

Can be a little confusing

We purchase a lot of eyewitness travel books before going out of the country, however this one was a little disappointing. The layout of it is very bad. It seems like you are constantly flipping around to find what you are looking for because they don't really have it organized well. For instance, in the winelands they didn't have a single section for the best winelands. You'd have to flip to different top 10 lists around the book to try to find good wineries to go to. Then you come back to the book the next day and finding a winery that you found the day before would be confusing.

Does that make sense? I hope not - because that's how you'll feel if you order this travel guide.

Great book for navigating Cape Town

First off - Cape Town is an amazing city and I highly recommend it. It's pocket sized, has good maps and will help you optimize your time in Cape Town. The DK Eyewitness Top 10 books have been my friends on 6 continents and has helped me make the best use of my limited time and ensure I see and do amazing things. Like all travel books, make sure you double check on the web before you head out. But a fantastic book!

I went to Cape Town in December and used this guide. It was wonderful. It had excellent guidance on the best things to do and had great suggestions on places to eat. A must have for any trip to Cape Town.

This is a horrible book, HORRIBLE!

Kristen is an avid photographer living in New York City in YOU'VE BEEN WARNED, the latest book to be churned out of the James Patterson factory. She's a good photographer and is close to making it big. Until the money starts rolling in, she works as a nanny for the two adorable kids of Michael and Penley Turnbull. Kristin seems like a normal 26-year old girl, except that weird things keep happening to her. She keeps having a reoccuring dream about four murders at a hotel. She keeps hearing a song in her head that she can't quite place. Some images in her photos are unexplainable, and she thinks she sees her dead father on the streets of Manhattan. Also, Kristen is having an affair with Michael Turnbull and expects him to leave Penley for her any day now. One night in a club, a stranger approaches her and tells her to be careful, and that now, she's "been warned."

Not counting the flying kids novels, this is the forth Patterson novel this year. He writes so many now that you can compare his novels to others quite easily to get a good idea of where they stand. STEP ON A CRACK had a poor sublot with the cop with ten kids. CROSS was great. The latest Women's Murder Club books have turned into 2 or 3 novellas combined to make a novel. THE QUICKIE grabbed me early and was full of twists. Definitely a great book. HONEYMOON faded at the end, BEACH ROAD featured a point of view gimmick, JUDGE AND JURY seemed like an afterthought, while LIFEGUARD was quite intriguing. You get my point, some Patterson books, are good, a few great, and many average. I believe there should be a new category shoud be created for YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. It sets a new standard for horrible awfulness regardless of what other book you judge it against.

The blurb on the inside jacket of the hardcover is SO misleading and tells you nothing about the type of book you are about to read. Sure, Kristen is a nanny and a photographer, But that in no way scratches the surface in what Patterson is trying to pull off here. In my opinion, the entire 374 pages of the novel is a beginning. This is a one note novel, with no turns, no transitions. I mentioned above the strange things that happen to Kristen, the dream, the music, the photos. None of it is ever explained. Strange things keep happening and piling on and Kristen keeps thinking she understands or is getting close to solving the mystery, before more strange things happen, and the reader is back at square one.

This is a gimmick novel, and it fails so miserably, it is hard to put into words. It is easy to read so you might want to check it out in the library just so you can get an idea for how bad it is. This is disappointing considering how much I enjoyed THE QUICKIE, but it is not unexpected because Patterson can be counted on to produce a clunker every third or forth effort. The last line of the inside cover blurb says "This novel of psychological suspense is a stunning new achievement for thriller master Patterson." There is no suspense, there are no thrills, only and endless cycle of unexplained occurrences that take the novel in a direction you don't expect by reading the blurb. And unfortunately, that direction is a place that no reader should ever be forced to go again.

James, Howard...what happened? *mild spoilers*

Dear James and Howard:

You are two of my favorite current suspense writers. Howard, the Up and Comer is one of my favorite mysteries of all time. James, the Alex Cross books still stand up wonderfully. I liked your last book together, Honeymoon.

What on earth happened here?

Okay, I know the authors aren't really reading this review. But in some ways, doesn't it feel like this book demands a personal explanation? I mean, this was just wrong. It reads like it was written by a computer program ("Write in James Patterson Style!"). Is there even a complete paragraph in the book?

Like THIS!
BOO!

No, it doesn't make a bad book any more suspenseful.

It's not the subject matter -- I don't mind the unreliable narrator/psychological thriller aspect or the gimmick of the book (in fact, I like it!) but this was NOT well-executed. Read some Jim Thompson, Jason Starr, or Howard Roughan (hey! that's you!) to see how it's done well. If you want to enjoy a good story about this subject matter, *mild SPOILER ALERT!!! warning!* you have SO many more good options. Rent Jacob's Ladder. Mulholland Drive. Or even the freaking Sixth Sense. This is just heinous. They telegraph the ending halfway through the book. It is no surprise. It is one giant badly written cliche.

Really, what happened? How could two writers I like so much go so wrong? Unlike some of the other reviewers, I can't blame Roughan b/c I have read all his other books, and not a single one is anything less than great. My only conclusion is that they had a terrible ghostwriter, because this in no way resembles anything either of them have written before.

The title is indeed apt -- I wish I had read the reviews before I spent my money on this. My advice? Save your money on this hardback and order Roughans The Up And Comer instead. Now THAT'S suspense.

"Don't think, just run!"

When your book budget is low and your local library (though delightful) has a limited stock of new books, what to do? Lately I've been falling back on formula thrillers to lull me to sleep at night, and that's why I checked out this James Patterson offering -- a regrettable choice, I'm sorry to say.

I know James Patterson can put out a highly readable book, which makes it all the more unfortunate that he's squandering his reputation with something as unfocused as "You've Been Warned." He and co-author Howard Roughan have given us a superficial story that starts with a bad dream and never really gets off the ground.

The story is told in the first person by an aspiring Manhattan photographer, Kristin Burns (her catch phrase: "Don't think, just shoot!") Kristin is tormented by bad dreams that seem to come true, warned darkly by dead people, and freaked out by creepy effects on her photographs. She thinks she may be going mad.

The authors' choice of the first person, present tense for this tale is not effective. Kristin has no idea what's going on and there isn't enough information for the reader to guess -- or care. There are very few clues given; is it a horror tale? or did Kristin capture something on film that she shouldn't have? or is it a psychological thriller with madness or evil at its core? The book doesn't quite settle on a theme.

Several major events from Kristin's past are thrown into the mix near the end, a frenzied deus ex machina. There was the feeling that the book was approaching its target word count before the author thought to check the outline -- OOPS! Here, have this ... and this ... and this.

With all the poor pacing and stream-of-consciousness narration, you may wonder where the two stars are coming from. There are two delightful children in the story and they deserve one each even though their roles are small. Also, the New York setting is vivid and the photography theme, though not well enough developed, is somewhat interesting.

It's heartbreaking, really. If the elements of "You've Been Warned" were to be Mixmastered and served up fresh with some loving care, we COULD have a book we deserve.
